Texas Attorney General Paxton is taking legal action against the producers of Tylenol, alleging the corporations concealed potential risks that the pain reliever posed to children's cognitive development.

The lawsuit comes thirty days after President Donald Trump publicized an unverified association between consuming acetaminophen - alternatively called paracetamol - throughout gestation and autism in offspring.

Paxton is filing suit against Johnson & Johnson, which once produced the drug, the sole analgesic suggested for women during pregnancy, and Kenvue, which presently makes it.

In a official comment, he stated they "betrayed America by profiting off of suffering and promoting medication ignoring the risks."

The manufacturer states there is lacking scientific proof connecting acetaminophen to autism spectrum disorder.

"These companies deceived for years, knowingly endangering millions to line their pockets," the attorney general, a Republican, said.

Kenvue commented that it was "very worried by the spread of false claims on the security of acetaminophen and the possible consequences that could have on the welfare of women and children in America."

On its official site, the company also said it had "consistently assessed the relevant science and there is no credible data that shows a verified association between using acetaminophen and autism."

Associations speaking for physicians and health professionals share this view.

The leading OB-GYN organization has stated paracetamol - the key substance in Tylenol - is one of the few options for expectant mothers to manage discomfort and elevated temperature, which can pose serious health risks if not addressed.

"In more than two decades of studies on the use of acetaminophen in gestation, not a single reputable study has conclusively proven that the consumption of paracetamol in any trimester of pregnancy causes neurodevelopmental disorders in offspring," the group commented.

The court filing mentions current declarations from the former administration in arguing the medication is potentially dangerous.

Last month, Trump caused concern from public health officials when he advised expectant mothers to "resist strongly" not to consume Tylenol when unwell.

The FDA then issued a notice that doctors should contemplate reducing the consumption of Tylenol, while also stating that "a proven link" between the medication and autism in minors has not been proven.

Health Secretary Robert F Kennedy Jr, who oversees the Food and Drug Administration, had promised in spring to conduct "extensive scientific investigation" that would establish the source of autism in a limited time.

But authorities advised that discovering a single cause of autism spectrum disorder - considered by experts to be the result of a complicated interplay of inherited and surrounding conditions - would prove challenging.

The court case mirrors the complaints of a assembly of guardians of young ones with autism and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder who filed suit against the producers of Tylenol in two years ago.

The court dismissed the case, saying investigations from the plaintiffs' authorities was lacking definitive proof.
