The Red Devils Poised to Secure Germany Striker Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants

The Women's Super League club are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific German striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Marquee Acquisition for United

The forward, with half a year remaining on her contract, is known as a prolific goalscorer for both club and country. She has netted over 100 goals for Bayern and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. Her arrival will be seen as a marquee coup for the WSL side.

Her exit from Bayern has been anticipated after she was seen holding back emotions while thanking the German club’s supporters following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

Reports in late December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its leading forwards. Per multiple sources, all the paperwork for the move are now finalised.

Reliable Goalscoring to Boost United's Attack

The experienced striker's signing should represent a significant uplift to United’s attacking options. Schüller has been remarkably reliable with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.

  • Over seven straight seasons, up to and including the last term, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Building Steam at Carrington

Securing the German international coincides with a period when United seem to be building positive momentum.

Their recent on-pitch successes include qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the mid-season window has brought further business:

  1. The signing of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since joining in 2023.

On Miyazawa’s new deal, a club official commented: “She has become a vital component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability enables her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”

Lundkvist, who has joined from a club in the American league, said: “You can feel how much the club have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
