Six Arrested After 12 Million Euro Robbery on Gold Refining Lab in the French Republic

Six armed perpetrators carrying high-powered firearms employed explosives to break into a gold refining laboratory located in the city of Lyon, resulting in minor injuries to five workers during what appears to be the latest high-profile daytime heist to occur in the nation.

The bold operation was carried out on Thursday late morning, with police forces rapidly detaining the individuals believed responsible and retrieving the loot valued at approximately €12 million (10.5 million pounds), as stated by authorities.

Five employees of Laboratoires Pourquery received light wounds from the blast, and three individuals were taken to a medical facility for examination, officials confirmed. A total of twenty-eight staff were present on-site when the thieves struck.

The individuals, believed to be seasoned offenders, were taken into custody a brief time later in the adjacent municipality of Vénissieux, France, a source close to the investigation stated.

A female participant who participated in the heist was also apprehended, officers confirmed.

“Six people who used detonations in an attack on a gold refining facility in the Lyon area were caught in the act,” the nation's interior minister stated online, lauding police for their “quick action, authority and management”.

High-caliber firearms, handguns and detonation devices were recovered as well.

The raid happened as law enforcement in France on Thursday detained five further people, among them a key figure, in relation to this month's brazen theft at the Louvre.

Dozens of investigators have been hunting four perpetrators who utilized a lorry featuring an elevating platform and cutting gear to access a gallery on the first floor at the museum on 19 October, fleeing with jewelry valued at approximately 88 million euros.

In a different significant robbery, robbers the previous month forced their way into the Natural History Museum in Paris, taking gold specimens valued at more than one million dollars. A 24-year-old Chinese woman was apprehended in the current month in Barcelona in relation to the burglary, officials confirmed.

The sequence of heists has generated apprehension in France regarding insufficient protection at museums and other institutions holding high-value objects.
