Franchise leads Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson are set to return for the new Hunger Games film, Sunrise on the Reaping.
It has been confirmed that original actors Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson will reprise their iconic roles in the next chapter of the Hunger Games film series, titled The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping. The project is now in the works.
A Major Return to Panem
The actors will once again portray Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark, the roles they originated. Industry whispers indicate their roles will likely occur in a brief glimpse ahead, as the original saga concluded with their characters married and with children.
This marks the sixth installment in the highly successful Hunger Games franchise.
The Source Material
Sunrise on the Reaping is adapted from a recent book by series creator Suzanne Collins. It will be the follow-up prequel after 2023's The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes. For this project is Francis Lawrence, who has helmed the majority of the previous films in the series.
The Plot and New Cast
The film's story are set 24 years before the first Hunger Games, focusing on a young Haymitch Abernathy. Haymitch, later known as Katniss's mentor, is portrayed as a tribute in the brutal 50th Hunger Games.
The supporting roles feature several accomplished actors in important characters:
- Jesse Plemons will portray Plutarch Heavensbee.
- Ralph Fiennes is cast as a younger version of the calculating President Snow.
Current Projects and Release Timeline
Separately, Jennifer Lawrence stars in the film Die My Love. Josh Hutcherson stars in the sequel to the successful franchise Five Nights at Freddy's 2.
Regarding the production schedule:
- Principal photography began in the summer of 2025.
